Primary school can be challenging for a student. When entering primary school, the toddlers might feel a little anxious in the beginning. While it gets easier as the days go by, some children continue to struggle throughout primary school.

As a parent, you must know about them so that you can deal with them if your child begins showing signs of hardship. If such challenges are dealt with during the primary years, it makes their education in the future easier.

Here are some issues that your child might face during primary school:

  1. Difficulty with Discipline: Some children might struggle with being obedient in the school's formal structure. They might want to work independently and see the authority as imposing limits. Toddlers may not express such difficulties into words, but they might express their problem by being more demanding at home. The students must learn to manage their anxieties through play. Speak to the teachers if needed, and ensure that they deal with your child with kindness.

  2. Separation anxiety: All children feel anxious when going to school for the first few days, but it goes away as it becomes a part of their routine. However, some children might not be able to settle into the school as effortlessly as others. They might miss the comfort and safety of their home, which can be possible signs of separation anxiety. They might show signs of reluctance in going to school or lagging in their schoolwork. The best way is to introduce familiarity during their school hours so that they don't feel alienated. Show them that the school is a healthy and happy place, where the teachers are around to care for them. Speak to the school and establish ways to make school a little more familiar for your child.

  3. Bullying: Children often face bullying without knowing the concept of bullying. They might be getting bullied or might unknowingly become the bully. Children who are insecure or at a disadvantage in any form become the targets of bullying. They might be new at school, have trouble making friends, or show visible differences than other children. It would be best if you had constant conversations instilling confidence and self-worth in your child. Along with this, they should also become compassionate from their formative years to not take advantage of others. Allow your child to express their feelings about the school and their friends. If your child shows signs of bullying, speak to the other child's parents in the situation or the teachers to get your child to feel safe in the school.

  4. Learning Problems: While the teacher might not always be able to pay complete attention to each student, it becomes your responsibility to step up in such a situation. The schoolwork can arouse considerable anxieties in the child relating to confidence, understanding, and grasping of knowledge. Your child may be having difficulties in speaking up in class or asking help from the teachers. They might pretend to understand the lessons due to the fear of being reprimanded. So, it would help if you were actively involved in the child's education. Help them understand lessons they are having trouble in. Tell them that asking for help is a positive thing. If the problems persist, speak to the class teacher for additional assistance.

Understanding your child's needs with open channels of communication will help them in the long run. So, be involved in their activities at home and at school to make their primary education stress-free.
